Customers often ask if our seat covers are waterproof. The best way to describe them is virtually waterproof. Many of our fabrics are engineered to repel spills and messes, but because of seams and stitching no seat cover can ever be fully waterproof.
Hereโs why:
- Fabric performance: Many of our covers feature a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish, a tight, durable weave, and a waterproof backer. These layers give excellent protection against everyday spills, mud, and mess.
- A durable water-repellent (DWR) finish which allows moisture to bead up can wear down over time.
- Slits or cutouts in covers designed for safety features like seat belt access or other features can create openings for liquids.
- Seams and stitching: Where panels are sewn together, seams can be vulnerable. With enough liquid, abrasion, or overexposure, moisture may eventually seep in.
- Design variations: Covers like our SeatSaver have a one-piece design help stop spills at the back and bottom seat split. Our PrecisionFit and Marathon offer a two-piece seat covers to provide a tighter, more custom fit, but small gaps between cushions can allow liquid to pass through.
That is why we recommend treating our seat covers as water-resistant rather than absolutely waterproof. Cleaning up spills promptly is always the best way to protect both your seats and your covers.
Since 1965 we have focused on engineering seat covers that balance durability, fit, and protection. The result is seat protection that is virtually waterproof, long-lasting, and ready for whatever life throws at your vehicle.
